What Changes & Why?
As you know, COVID took away our opportunity to participate in USAT for two years. Over those two years, life has changed pretty significantly for the Sheldon Family (the previous – and longtime – coordinators of USAT). Due to some life changes (and moves to other locations around the country & world), they are not available to coordinate USAT like in years past. Instead, longtime coach (and former USAT-er herself), Michaela Barrett will be stepping in to help coordinate. Sarah, Dan & Ally Sheldon will still be involved, but not to the same extent as before.
However, other than staffing changes, nothing about the USAT program will be changing. For those who are new, or for those who are ‘well-seasoned’, please take time to peruse the USAT Program Manual as necessary.
A Note from the New Coordinator:
My name is Michaela Barrett. I will be taking over as Coordinator for our USAT program. I am very excited for this new adventure!
Although these last three years without USAT have undoubtedly led to some changes at your districts and schools, I hope you are excited as I am that USAT will be coming back! And I hope that you and your school and/or district will be able to join us. I love this program and value it as an enrichment program for our students. I’m excited for a new season and re-starting this program.
Like mentioned above, I participated in USAT as a student. After I became a teacher and taught for a couple of years, I was asked to take on coaching the Knowledge Bowl & USAT teams for the school at which I worked. I have since coached both programs for 12+ years at two schools in Central MN. I’ve also been fortunate enough to be able to take several teams to the USAT State competitions over the years.
While I am excited to move into this new role, I also want to take a quick moment to thank you in advance for your patience as I get acclimated to the coordinator side of the USAT program. I am learning to balance my current teaching position with being a mom of an active two-year old, as well as taking on this new role! I am very excited for the future of USAT. I am hopeful that together we can have USAT a part of our students’ future for many years to come!
